Pickering Nuclear Station seeks license renewal.
Think long and hard whether to support this renewal.

surrounded by nearly 3 million people with NO EVACUATION PLAN in case of accident
Ontario has a surplus of power now; Ontario exports power; Ontario hydro rates among the third highest in all of Canada. We pay and pay and pay.
Ontario subsidizes the plant with $900 million every year !
The spent fuel rods are stored here in Pickering; the list of communities willing to take this nuclear waste has dwindled from 40 to 9, nine communities badly in need of revenue.
There are viable, safer and practical alternatives to help the province with its power problem: Quebec, conservation, wind, solar, biomass, biogas and geothermal.
Ask yourself these questions about Nuclear Power?
Is it really safe? Remember Chalk River, 1956, Three-mile island, Chernobyl, Fukushima. Over 100,000 people are still displaced from their homes around the still very dangerous Japanese nuclear station. They likely never be able to safely return. Cleanup costs are estimated at a quarter trillion dollars and will take 100 years.
Is it ‘green?’ The nuclear industry claims it is “emission free” but it releases millions of radioactive curies annually to which the industry refers to as “incidents.” Additionally, the Pickering station releases millions of gallons of cooling water contaminated with radioactive tritium into the environment, threatening drinking water and fish habitat. Tritium is a known carcinogen and mutagen with its effects occurring even at low exposures.
Is it secure? Also, consider security threats. Although security at civilian airports has been enormously improved, security at nuclear power plants is virtually unchanged, even though these facilities constitute potential weapons of mass destruction and, as such, are inviting targets for terrorists.
