PICKERING NUCLEAR POWER PLANT
Some points to consider about the plant:
- PICKERING NUCLEAR GEN. STATION is 45 years old
- The station first came into operation in 1971.
- The PNGS has a licence to run until 2018. It will be 47 then.
- They’re applying for a 10-year licence at which point it’ll be 57.
- The reactors were built with a 30-year lifespan.
- Nuclear fuel needs to be isolated for 1 million years
(NWMO: Nuclear Waste Management Organization) - ON buys some water power from QC, Cornwall and Ottawa specifically. Last year ON and QC made a deal to exchange peak electricity when needed, up to 500 MW.
- You and your property are NOT INSURED in case of a nuclear accident.
