Here’s a practical tip for those of you doing your own pickling.

You know who you are, Jan !

Lids from store bought products can be reused but record the number times the lid has been used. Strike a black mark across the lid to indicate used once. Next time, slash across the first mark making an X on the lid to indicate second use.

Discard the lid after its second reuse as the seal is too fatigued to maintain air tightness.
