5 tips for a healthier, fitter you

You can become healthier and fitter by changing some very simple things in your life. The benefits will be a longer, healthier life, more energy and a greater feeling of wellness.

Here are five easy to implement changes you can undertake.

1 – Drink water – slowly replacing sugary drinks with water.
So many of us are dehydrated, but it’s so normal to us now, that we don’t even realize it. A few studies have shown that those attempting to lose weight, have much greater success if they start making water their drink of choice. Our bodies are composed primarily of water, so we need to make sure we stay hydrated.

2 – Exercise – Just do something you enjoy
You don’t need to start training for a marathon or be able to bench press your body weight. Start going for long walks – join a sports team – join a gym and participate in group exercise classes. Just find something you can enjoy and do several times a week, if not daily. Exercising daily for 30 minutes helps increase your chance at a longer life. We live a much to sedentary lifestyle, and it’s one of the reasons why we are seeing an increase cardiovascular related disease.

3- Eat Fruit – This is a great way to get your daily vitamins and, its basically natures candy
Instead of eating a candy bar, try eating an apple, kiwis, or some strawberries. You will satisfy your palate and be eating healthy at the same time.

4- Eat healthy meals and Learn to cook
Saying eat healthy is probably the most overused advice when it comes to healthy lifestyle advice. But it is also one of the most necessary. As a secondary piece of advice…start learning how to cook if you don’t know how to already. In our fast-paced world, we eat a lot more processed food than we should which leads to vitamin deficiencies and overeating. Learning to cook will naturally lead to healthier eating since you are using natural ingredients, rather than throwing a frozen pizza in the oven.

Changing your eating patterns
a) Try to have a balanced meal with some fruits and veggies and lean meats like chicken or turkey.
b) Also, try eating smaller meals and portions. You would be surprised at how filling fruits and veggies can be.
c) Perhaps start using smaller plates so you don’t feel like your need to fill this huge dinner plate and end up eating a 1200 calorie dinner.

5- Hang out with healthy people
If you want to make a change in your life, its easiest if you surround yourself with people who believe in what you are doing. Try to get your friends on board with your healthy journey – Maybe 1 or 2 will want to walk this journey with you and really help you out. However, if they are not supportive, it might be time to find other groups to be with.
