When you leave home for vacation, PREPARE YOUR HOME for your absence.
Here’s a list to help you prepare home for your vacation:
HOME (Vacation) PREPARATION CHECKLIST
KEYS
- Provide keys to ‘house minder’ (family / friend)
Turn OFF
- TELEPHONE ANSWERING machine
- WATER turn off
- ELECTRICAL unplug unnecessary devices
- LOWER heating temperature
- Turn ON
- Auto timer lights
ARRANGE
- FLYER/MAIL clearing from doorstep
- Snow removal with extra gas
- Sidewalk clearing
- Stop newspaper delivery
SECURITY
- clear mailbox, doorstep of packages, deliveries
- Leave curtains and blinds in normal positions
- Place wood dowels in window/door tracks to prevent opening
- Update luggage tags with destination location/phone number
- Keep your house and car keys in your ‘carry on’ luggage
MISC
- Refresh bedsheets for your return
- Frozen dinners in freezer for return
DOCS/CARDS
- make copies of credit cards
- copy PASSPORTS, INSURANCE COPIES
- Confirm you passport expiry date is beyond your travel period
- copies of medications/prescriptions
- make copies of information you may need in case of emergency
(car insurance, travel health insurance)
MEDICAL
- make copies of med records, prescriptions
- keep medications in their original containers
FAMILY
- Provide family with contact PHONE NUMBER
- Setup email contact address
- Provide family with TRAVEL ITINERARY
