Americans live high off the hog, even the needy

People everywhere…cars, stores, restaurants, bars, thousands of people. Lots of people but little money.

The USA has more than 327 million people; Florida holds 21 million, outnumbered only by California, the most populated state and Texas, the second most. The richest states are Maryland and the District of Columbia with median household incomes of $75,800 AND $75,600 respectively. Florida ranks far down the list at 39th spot at $49,400. The poorest state is Mississippi at $40,900. So Florida may have many people but they do not have a lot of money.

When one looks at the locals in the plazas and the malls it is obvious many of these people are not wealthy judging by the quality of their apparel and seeing where they shop most, Walmart, Dollar Tree, Sketchers Factory outlet. Like all of us, they want a lower price for whatever they are buying. Yet, it is surprising that the parking lots don’t reflect the lower middle-class income of the majority of native Floridians. Not only are most of the cars late models, but there is an unexpected number of upper-end models, your Beemers, your Lexus, your Audis and your Cadillacs. The last car is surprisingly popular, is either very affordable or an example of conspicuous consumption.

They may not have lots of money, but they aren’t going to suffer because of the lack of income.
