More about the golden olden of south Florida

They may be old but they still got it…old charm.

Of course, businesses cater to the biggest group of potential patrons, the oldsters. Jerry Seinfeld had a great skit in one of his shows. His mother and father, vacationing in Florida, rushed off every afternoon so they wouldn’t miss the “Early bird specials,” discounted meals sold to early senior diners. We have not seen such yet but then we only went out for dinner once, as we prefer our own preparations…healthier, better portioned and more trustworthy.

Another industry catering to that demographic is the medical/pharmaceutical…hey, this crowd’s real druggies, using everything from cannabis to Lipitor to treat everything from diabetes to hypertension. And the American med-pharm industries are going to cash in…America at its usual, profit takes priority.

As you drive along State Rd 7, a main north south route that dovides Fort Lauderdale, each side of the road has a ceaseless and unending series of strip malls of retailers, higher end ones like Bed, Bath and Beyond, lower end too like the ‘failed in Canada’ Target. Of course, the Walmarts are ubiquitous and as expected, booming…we all want it cheap.

Getting back to the med-pharm group…medical clinics, walk-in medical offices and pharmacies sprout up more than sporadically like weeds on your lawn. And the pharmacies, Walgreen, CVS, even generic ones, everywhere…even the Targets and Walmarts cater to the druggies…oldies can’t live without their drugs.
