For many years, Allan Fotheringham was the last word, the last page of Maclean’s magazine. He was a curmudgeon, a reprobate, a satirist and a verbal swashbuckler pricking balloons of the high and mighty everywhere. He did what he did with humour, with some clowning and with some laughter but it was still serious stuff.
He was the reason for buying a copy of Maclean’s for many years. He belonged to the era of Gordon Sinclair, Pierre Berton, Fred Davis and Betty Kennedy. If you don’t know who they were, pass on reading his obituary.
Dr. Foth will be missed. He was missed for many years after he retired from his regular beat. When he stopped writing his regular column, it was the end of an era.
