The submission
- A description that the situation in long-term-care facilities is worsening due to:
- Neglect
- Underfunding
- Overcrowding
- impact of COVID-19 pandemic
- Call for immediate measurable action and changes by Ontario long-term care facilities.
- Recommendations submitted to Ontario’s Long-Term Care COVID-19 Commission:
- immediately reinstate the mandatory inspection regime
- mandatory public reporting of all long-term care facilities,
- focus on infections, medical supply and long-term care staff availability,
- appropriate access to local hospitalization and specialized care
- immediate emergency funds to hire additional full-time long-term care staff and raise the wages for all long-term care workers
- an emergency rapid response task force
- establishment of Government of Canada and Province of Ontario Ombuds to receive and review all complaints and investigations
- Clerk, on behalf of the Council of The Corporation of the City of Pickering, forward this resolution in advance of the January 31, 2021 deadline to Ontario’s Long-Term Care COVID-19 Commission
