A synopsis of the Brenner-McLean submission on Long Term Care Ontario

  • Declaration of submission of their motion to Ontario’s Long-Term Care COVID-19 Commission

The submission

  1. A description that the situation in long-term-care facilities is worsening due to:
  • Neglect
  • Underfunding
  • Overcrowding
  • impact of COVID-19 pandemic

  1. Call for immediate measurable action and changes by Ontario long-term care facilities.

  2. Recommendations submitted to Ontario’s Long-Term Care COVID-19 Commission:
  • immediately reinstate the mandatory inspection regime
  • mandatory public reporting of all long-term care facilities,
  • focus on infections, medical supply and long-term care staff availability,
  • appropriate access to local hospitalization and specialized care
  • immediate emergency funds to hire additional full-time long-term care staff and raise the wages for all long-term care workers
  • an emergency rapid response task force
  • establishment of Government of Canada and Province of Ontario Ombuds to receive and review all complaints and investigations
  • Clerk, on behalf of the Council of The Corporation of the City of Pickering, forward this resolution in advance of the January 31, 2021 deadline to Ontario’s Long-Term Care COVID-19 Commission
