The SINNER, Tess Gerritsen

The Sinner
Tess Gerritsen

Good story, nicely written.

Synopsis
‘They want us to know why they died…’Within the walls of a cloistered convent, a scene of unspeakable carnage is discovered. On the snow lie two nuns, one dead, one critically injured – victims of a seemingly motiveless, brutally savage attack. Dr Maura Isles’ autopsy of the murder victim yields a shocking surprise, but the case takes a disturbing twist. The body of another woman has been found. And someone has gone to a lot of trouble to remove her face, hands and feet. As long buried secrets are uncovered, Dr Isles and Detective Jane Rizzoli, find themselves part of a terrifying investigation that leads to a chilling realization of the killer’s identity.

Richard says
Nice story with lots of tension, some humour and even a bit of romance.

  • Bhopal Disaster:
    • The Bhopal disaster occurred at the Union Carbide India Limited (UCIL) pesticide plant in 1984, exposing over 500,000 people to highly toxic gas methyl isocyanate (MIC).
    • Officially, 2,259 immediate deaths were reported, with estimates of thousands more dying from gas-related diseases.

Based on the true story of the Bhopal, India disaster, Gerritsen creates her own ancillary story making a good secondary tale based on the original disaster.

Rizzoli and Isles are both back, the detective and the Queen of Death. Gerritsen does a great job of building suspense throughout the story, surprising readers with great twists, turns and surprises.

Gerritsen is not a heavy-duty author, but definitely writes engaging page-turners. This is another one.

When searching for a Gerritsen book, I would recommend looking for the cover heading that displays the book has been a New York Times Bestseller. This likely ensures that the book will be entertaining, and a good read.
