POINT-COUNTERPOINT: Politicians eschewing residency in the riding they represent…hypocrisy?

Why is it that people elected to represent our community don’t live here? As an example, Peter Bethlenfalvy. Apparently, he rents a condo under the guise that he is a long-time resident. This is probably a requirement to skirt the Elections Act. He was and is a Toronto resident who resided in the well-heeled parts of Toronto. Now the same issue faces us with the upcoming Federal election. Over a dozen people are running to represent Pickering-Brooklin (Uxbridge got dropped), and only 2 to 3 live in Pickering. We don’t need or want people who have no vested interest in our community. Some involve themselves with local charities to show how involved they are, but they know very little about what the makeup of the community is.

Party politics has shanghaied our electoral system. I want a local person who I can hold accountable for their actions and who responds to the community’s needs.
