A city in turmoil, and hard to tell which came first ‘chicken or egg.’
The City is one of the most energetic and dynamically developing burgs east of Toronto. Growing population, growing number of businesses, housing development others envy. It’s a tremendous city in which to live, still small enough to have a personable feel to it, yet growing so well that you have the feeling of living in a big, bustling, cosmopolitan dynamo.
But there are some wisps of tumult wafting up from Pickering. A City councillor that many would label as a muckracker and racist though the councillor claims to be a voice of integrity and principle in the wilderness. Be that as it may, some question remain, particularly about claims of corruption and malfeasance in its municipal affairs.
Most certainly, the City’s information system can be criticized. The City website has been a chaotic mishmash of information that was a challenge for every resident using it. Newsprint is no longer available; city councillors are inconsistent in publishing informative newsletters. What’s left? The City website is a justifiably criticized and lambasted hub of information where no one can find needed information quickly and readily. The City undertook website design and redevelopment. Where is it?
The City’s website remains unfathomable, incomprehensible, and uninformative. Worse, too often, phoning the City for answers gets nowhere, as the phones remain unanswered. Mayor Ashe and his councillors have repeatedly claimed website changes are coming. It seems like we can count on taxes and death with more certainty than a finished and updated website from Pickering.
But the City has people working on it…too bad the tax teams isn’t working on the website development….
