Some notifications, notes and messages from the local branch of the Canadian Legion
______________________
The Remembrance Day commemorative banners depicted above fly from 56 street lamps in downtown Pickering. The City of Uxbridge has hundreds as they fly them throughout their region.
The Banners
The banners depict the Canadian flag and the Union Jack along with a photo of the veteran being remembered with their rank and service is highlighted. The bottom of the banner shows the symbols for the City, the poppy representing the federal Legion and the logo of the local Legion Branch, 606.
The banners are purchased by legion members or their families through the local legion. The legion designers are given permission to use a photograph and publish the information about the fallen veteran.
Purchase of a Banner
Persons interested in purchasing a banner and who have had family member who served in the Canadian military and was lost in battle can get more details and more information by contacting:

Support the Poppy Campaign
Helen Wishnowski (who is an integral part of our Poppy Campaign every year as she coordinates so many of the behind the scene details for the campaign) has asked me to reach out and let our readers know that on this opening weekend of the campaign, the branch will not have Cadets available for Poppy tagging, and so the need for volunteers to tag this weekend especially in various local retail locations is quite important.
In 2023, the local legion raised over $50,000 in Poppy campaign donations. We all hope to surpass that amount in 2024.
Many residents in our community are out and about, and looking to show their support of the campaign from its very first days of operation — and there is still lots of availability on the branch sign up board for this upcoming weekend — one can easily pick a time and location that suits your availability and location preference.
(And per an earlier email request for delivery driver teams for counter boxes, if you have availability this afternoon/evening or tomorrow (Friday, October 25th), please feel free to check in with Helen at 289-314-1960 to see if all of the delivery routes have been filled. If she still has openings, I am sure she would be grateful for your assistance.)
And notification of a change to the Sundays that are alternate to our Open Mic …… the branch is no longer hosting Sunday Games Days on the alternate Sunday, though I understand the branch continues to be open for guests on those Sundays.
Please keep tuned for upcoming news about what is being planned in the near future for those upcoming Sundays —- as soon as I have all the details y’all will be the very first to know!
And as usual, as we entered the autumn season, our Open Mic has shifted back to its “non-summer” schedule, with the branch opening at 12 noon on Open Mic Sundays, and the Open Mic running from 1 – 6 pm., on the alternate Sunday dates.
(And for your reference, our next Open Mic is November 3rd …… )
And now for your WEEKEND UPDATE of activities in our Clubroom for Friday October 25th, Saturday October 26th, and Sunday October 27th.

This is a very spookily special Karaoke Friday @606, as the branch is hosting a Halloween Party, along with our usual Friday night karaoke!
