GIRL MISSING
Tess Gerritsen
Synopsis
The first body is a mystery. She’s young. She’s beautiful. And her corpse, laid out in the office of Boston medical examiner Kat Novak, betrays no secrets – except for a notebook clutched in one stiff hand, seven numbers scrawled inside.
The next body is a warning. When a second victim is discovered, Kat begins to fear that a serial killer is stalking the city streets: a shadowy madman without mercy or apparent motive. The police are skeptical. The mayor won’t listen. And Kat’s chief suspect is one of the city’s most prominent citizens.
The final body . . . might be hers. With the death toll rising, Kat races to expose a deadly conspiracy and the brutal killer at its heart – a killer who will stalk her from the dangerous streets of the inner city to the corridors of power. Because he’s closer than she ever dreamt. And every move she makes could be her very last.

Tess Gerritsen is a retired doctor, better known as a best selling author of thriller/murder novels. After reading many of those, I will confirm she deserves to be labelled as a best selling author in that genre.
But Gerritsen began as a romance author, soon bridging into romance-thriller novels. Girl Missing is a milestone for her as she recognized her passion, her forte was in thrillers rather than romantic bent books.
Girl Missing is the last of her romance tainted books. She made the right move.
Girl Missing is a good story incorporating the suspense of crime stories along with the development of a romantic line. The romance is a poor girl professional/rich guy corporate big wig. As the criminal story unfolds, the romantic relationship builds. It’s a nice juxtaposition that has the reader anxious for the criminal story to be brought to a close while curiosity builds about whether such a polar opposites as our heroine and her budding romantic partner can possibly close the gap. Adam is a rich corporation owner living in a mansion with a butler/majordomo and a fleet of luxury cars; Kat is a medical professional who became a medical examiner despite an early life of living in a drug dealing ghetto. Night and day, oil and water…can this romance blossom. It grows as the story progresses. Events tighten the romantic bonds. The crime is solved…the romance…..well, let’s leave that for your reading.
Girl Missing is an early book in Gerritsen’s writing career but already she shows well polished, refined quality writing. She is on the springboard of a dynamite writing career and this book confirms it is the right path for her. A worthwhile read!
