Councillor Lisa Robinson: March Council highlights

In light and in support of democratic principles
Councillor Lisa Robinson should make public comments without resorting to inciteful and vitriolic language.

Robinson, a duly elected city councillor, should be more cognizant of her use of heated words. Though words like ‘lie,’ ‘corrupt,’ ‘scandal’ may have validity, they are inciteful and serve no public good in municipal council discussions. Robinson seems impervious to the impact and repercussions of these words when she speaks about council members and city officials.

The public should carefully and strictly evaluate Robinson’s statements. She often has valid points which get buried among other inciteful and negative statements. The public needs to tease out the positive from the negative. “Careless spending” or “poorly managed expenditures” do not necessarily mean corruption. The public has faith that their elected representatives are principled and ethical politicians and implying any are corrupt without corroboration and evidence is unfair and unjust. These kinds of matters are better left to the legal authorities’ investigations rather than bandied about in the public arena.

With the above points in mind, view the Robinson March highlights with a critical eye. She is suggests negative slants in some areas but buries them among positive things in her sweeping generalizations.
